Biography

Daniel was the son of Ann H. Ward of Ambler Pennsylvania. He entered service (Selected Service) in the US Army and arrived in Vietnam on March 4, 1969 where he was assigned to and served with HHC Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, USARV.

During Operation LAMAR PLAIN, elements of the 1st Battalion encountered a hostile force on June 9 in the vicinity of Hill 376 east of Tien Phuoc in Quang Tin Province. During the engagement five men were killed in action and Sgt Thurston was listed as missing in action. His remains were recovered on the following day; had been killed as a result of the multiple fragmentation wounds he had sustained.
