Thomas Thurston was born on 8 October 1671 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island.

The entry in the Rhode Island Friends records shows that Thomas Thurston's parents were Edward Thurston (1617 – 1707) and Elizabeth Mott (1629 – 1694). His parentage are proven in the Friends records of Newport, Rhode Island.^[1]

Offices

Thomas Thurston was an assessor for Freetown in 1707-1709, 1718, and 1722. Also, he was a selectman for Freetown in 1708 and 1709.^[2]

The selectmen of Freetown at the town meeting voted to forgive Thomas Thurston the fine for neglecting to serve the assessor, but the entry for that event was not given the date in the town records of Freetown.^[3] Apparently, the event seemed to take place either on 2 January 1700 or 13 November 1718.

Death

The entry in the original vital records of Freetown on page 171 says, "Tomas thurstan of freetown Desenced marsh ye 22 day at night about eleven a Clock 1729/30."^[4]

He died about 11:00 pm on 22 March 1729/30 in Freetown, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.

Burial

The location of his burial remains unknown.^[5] His last known residence was in Freetown where he died, so he probably was buried somewhere in one of those cemeteries in Freetown. It is more likely he was buried at the Friends' cemetery because his parents were the Friends and raised him in the Friends community.
