Biography

[1]William J. Tickell (1790-1855), and Anne Lavina Stalcup were both born in Rockingham County, North Carolina. After William and Lavina married in 1810, they moved to White County, Tennessee. They had eight or nine children. The couple lived there for twenty-five years, where they raised most of their children.

Shortly after their youngest child Mary was born in 1835, they moved with their children from White County to Obion County, Tennessee. The one exception was their son, William Pickney Tickell, who moved to Mississippi when they moved to Obion County. William and Lavonia were there only a year or two before moving their family just over the Kentucky border to Hickman County.

The 1840 Federal Census of Hickman County, Kentucky showed the family living there as farmers, with two sons under the age of 14, and three daughters under the age of 19. Their other three children, William P, Elizabeth, and Martha, had all married and moved from their parents’ home by the time of the 1840 Census. The 1850 Federal Census of Fulton County (bordering counties), Kentucky showed William and Lavina living with only their daughter Sophronia.

Tickell-6 and Tickle-199 appear to represent the same person because: Dates are the same. Other research seems to validate that these two are the same person. Suggest collapsing into Tickle-99, as that is a more common spelling of the name.
