Some of my favorite memories of Daddy:

He loved to dance. We would two-step any time and anywhere we could. I grew up going to the Blue Creek Club, on Lake Martin, dancing. He was a great dancer.

Shine and Sheila

As a family, we loved anything Auburn University. Many, many ball games (football, basketball, baseball), we gathered as a family and watch on tv, or back in the day, listened on the radio.

Starting in 1994, every Sunday, I would go to Daddy's house to watch the NASCAR race. We never really following racing growing up, but we started following Jeff Gordon his rookie year. I would listen to Jeff's scanner on the computer, and every now and then, Daddy would say "What's Jeff saying". Most of the time we just were quiet and watched the race. This was my "Daddy-Daughter" time.

I knew he was disappointed in me when he would start a conversation with "Doll, you know..."

The story of how Jim got his nickname Shine was told to me by his mother, Canvis. Back when he was a little baby, Canvis would bath him all the time. All the family would tell her that she was going to make him "Shine" if she kept bathing him so much. Thus, the nickname was born.

In his professional life, his customers and fellow workers, called him Jim or James.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
