Biography

1928 ~ 2012 Arland J Tidwell loving husband and father completed his earthly mission and passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children, Tuesday April 3rd, 2012. AJ was born in Nampa, Idaho in 1928. He is the son of Stewart R. Tidwell and Thelma Sabin. He grew up on the family farm with his parents, three brothers and one sister. AJ had a talent for making things, fixing mechanical things and loved to tinker. He started using a pocket knife at age four. He attended BYU starting in 1947. While attending BYU, he applied for an apprenticeship as a pattern maker for Geneva Steel and was accepted out of 435 applicants. He completed his apprenticeship and met Beth Harding of Vineyard, Utah. They were married November 19th, 1954 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for U.S. Steel as a pattern maker for 35 years. He taught drafting and design at the Utah Technical College in Provo for eight years. AJ loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and sailing. He loved to build boats; he built many during his lifetime. He was active in the LDS Church and had many callings, including Scoutmaster. His greatest joy was spending time with his family (18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren). He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Dale (Joan) Tidwell. He is survived by his wife Beth, his children: Dennis (Laurie) Tidwell, Collette (Mark) Johnson, David (Priscilla) Tidwell, Carolyn (Robert) McLam and Jennifer (Cortney) Madsen, siblings: Stewart Jr. (Janie) Tidwell, Wayne (Shirley) Tidwell and Ruth (Sid) Brown. AJ will be greatly missed by his family who loved him deeply. We look forward to being together forever. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Orem Utah North Stake Center, 1000 N. Main Street, Orem. A viewing will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem as well as an hour prior to the services at the chapel.
