Helen (or Ellen, but known as Nellie) was born about 1884 in Philadelphia, Phil, PA. Daughter of Edward J. and Ellen C. Tierney. Her father was a Milk Man and died of TB in Philadelphia in 1889.
In 1903 she applied for a marriage license in Orphan's Court, Philadelphia, PA with her fiance' John Henry Clark (1881-?). Son of James Clark and Alice Hannigan.[1][2] Future census questions about their marriage places their wedding in 1904.
In 1910 they rented a house at 1103 State St, Phil., PA. Census says Nellie had born no children. John was a Fireman for the Railroad (the guy that stokes the fire in the engine). John's sister, Sarah Lynch nee Clark, was staying with them.
In 1918 they lived at 5104 Westminster Ave. in Philly. John worked as a Locomotive Engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad, a job he would keep through at least 1940.
In 1920 John & Nellie rented a house on 578 Paxon St, Phil, PA. Nellie's mother, Ellen [aka Helen] Tierney and their 14 year old daughter, Anna, lived with them (but 10 years earlier, Nellie said she'd never had any kids.)
Sometime before 1930, they bought a house at 1672 N 56th St. It was valued at $6,000 and they owned a radio set. By 1930, their daughter (?) Anna had moved away. They lived here through at least 1940 at which time the home was valued at $3,400. Nellie's mother continued to live with them through at least 1940.
1940 census is the last record I can find on Nellie. Her date and place of death are unknown.
