Emmett Till is Notable.

Emmett Till was a 14-year-old African-American boy who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, after being accused of offending a white woman in her family's grocery store.

Emmett Louis Till was born July 25, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. He was a son of Louis Till and Mamie Elizabeth Carthan.

In 1955 he was accused by Carolyn Bryant of making inappropriate advances against her at her store. Several nights after the supposed incident, Bryant's husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother J.W. Milam , armed themselves and abducted Emmett. On August 28, 1955, they beat and mutilated him before shooting him in the head and sinking his body in the Tallahatchie River.[1]

His mother insisted on an open casket funeral so all could see what had been done to him. He was buried in Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Cook county, Illinois.[2]

Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam were acquitted of murder. However, June 2022, an arrest warrant for Carolyn Bryant for kidnapping, dated August 29, 1955, was found. It is currently under debate whether that warrant can still be served.[3]
