Avery Tillman was born in 1800 in Person County, North Carolina, the son of Roger Tillman and Martha Lumpkin. He married Mona Johnson and they had six children.

Althought the Tillman Genealogy said Avery died in 1865, [1] Avery was living in Person, North Carolina according to the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 Censuses.
