Biography

Birth

Ward Tilton was born at Chilmark, Massachusetts, the son of Ward Tilton and Mary (Tobey) Tilton. Banks in his history of Martha's Vineyard says he was born about 1752,^[1] but based on his age at his death from his gravestone, ee was born about 1760,^[2]

Marriage

Ward Tilton of Chilmark, Massachusetts, married Elisabeth "Betsey" Chase of Tisbury, Massachusetts, at Tisbury on 3 Nov 1784.^[3] They subsequently moved to Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts).^[4] They were still in Chilmark in May 1800, when they baptized a son at the Congregational Church of Chilmark, and they may have been there as late as 2 Mar 1814, when a Ward Tilton Jr. baptized a child there.^[5]

Death

Ward Tilton died on 9 Jun 1825 and is buried at the Hillman Ferry Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, where his gravestone says he was in the 66th year of his age.^[2]
