Ward Tilton was born at Chilmark, Massachusetts, the son of Ward Tilton and Mary (Tobey) Tilton. Banks in his history of Martha's Vineyard says he was born about 1752,[1] but based on his age at his death from his gravestone, ee was born about 1760,[2]
Marriage
Ward Tilton of Chilmark, Massachusetts, married Elisabeth "Betsey" Chase of Tisbury, Massachusetts, at Tisbury on 3 Nov 1784.[3] They subsequently moved to Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts).[4] They were still in Chilmark in May 1800, when they baptized a son at the Congregational Church of Chilmark, and they may have been there as late as 2 Mar 1814, when a Ward Tilton Jr. baptized a child there.[5]
Death
Ward Tilton died on 9 Jun 1825 and is buried at the Hillman Ferry Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, where his gravestone says he was in the 66th year of his age.[2]
