Biography

John Tilton was the only son of John Tilton and his wife Elizabeth, surname unknown. He was born about 1704, after his father had removed from New Jersey to Delaware. John TIlton the elder died shortly after his son's birth, in 1709. [1]

John Tilton married Elizabeth, probably Ebtharp, some time in 1736 or before. She appears to have been the Elizabeth Ebtharp baptised 24 February 1707/8 in Cecil County, Maryland, of Francis and Ellinor Ebtharp.[2] John Tilton would have been her second husband. John Tilton and his family seem to have settled in Cecil County, where most of their children were apparently born. These were: [3]

Elizabeth - b. 1736
John - b. 1738; d. 1810 in Ohio; m. 1759 Susannah Jones
Thomas - b. 1740; d. 1793; m. before 1767 Deborah Ferrell
Elijah - b. after 1740
Richard - resided at some point in Baltimore, Maryland

Elizabeth Tilton may have died in 1768, but there appears to be no record, as there appears to be no record of John Tilton's death. He is alleged to have died in 1746 in Pennsylvania.

Note:

An unsourced daughter Anne Tilton-2060 has been detached as being too early for this family.

A conflated son John Tilton-2061 has been detached from these parents.
