Hannah was born in 1663 in Hampton, now part of New Hampshire, but then under the jurisdiction of Massachusetts.

WHAT IS THE CORRECT NAME OF THE WIFE OF ANANIAS WING?

The issue is whether Hannah, wife of Ananias Wing, is Hannah Freeman, daughter of Samuel and Apphia Freeman, or Hannah Tilton, daughter of Samuel Tilton and Hannah Moulton. Samuel Tilton named his daughter Hannah Wing in his will. Walter Goodwin Davis, historian for the Tilton family, thought that Hannah Tilton married Nathaniel Wing, while William Haslet Jones in his 1997 book on the origins and descendants of William Tilton says that her first husband was Nathan Wing (second husband being Thomas Mayhew). The only contemporary Nathaniel Wing (or Nathan) married Sarah Hatch. Samuel Tilton's family were ardent Quakers, as were some Wings (but was Ananias?), while Samuel Freeman was the step-son of Gov. Thomas Prence who was a zealous Quaker persecutor. According to Douglas A. Hall of Auburn, ME, E. S. Stackpole in his history of Winthrop, Maine, indicates that he thinks that her name was Hannah Wood. The Wing family web site coordinators have concluded that Hannah Tilton is the one who married Ananias Wing.
