Peter Mathias Timmins was the son of Peter Timmins and Jane Glynn. He was born on October 5, 1883 in Chester, Cheshire, England. His mother and father were the parents of nine children. Peter had four brothers and four sisters. His mother Jane Glynn Timmins passed away about a month after her daughter Theresa was born in 1890. His father Peter Timmins remarried in 1899 and was the father of another daughter Kathleen, born in July of 1900.
Peter emigrated to America at the age of seven on or about November 11, 1890 according to his Naturalization Petition. His arrival in New York was about the same time as several of his brothers and sisters. Most of the brothers and sisters lived near each other in Brooklyn, married and raised families there.
Peter joined the U.S. Marines at the age of 15. He had been living in Washington, D.C. with his great uncle, Mathias Glynn. Mathias Glynn’s residence was at The Soldiers' Home National Cemetery at 234 Harewood Rd., Washington, D.C. as he was the Superintendent of the cemetery.
Peter married Anastasia Gaffney on Jan 11, 1915. They lived at 37 Apollo St. in Brooklyn. Their son Peter Mathias Jr. was born about 1918. He passed away in 1933.
