Biography

Discussions of a yDNA Link to George Augustus Timmins (born 01 April 1824 in Pennsylvania, United States): A DNA link has been found between Jeff Timmons (a 3rd great grandson of Charles Timmons and Mary Magdalena Forney) and Thomas Douglas Timmins (a 2nd great grandson of George Augustus Timmins). However, the intersection of these two trees has yet to be identified.

Discussions of yDNA confirmation regarding children Frederick Timmons and Forney Timmons: a third great grandson William D Timmons, Jr of Frederick Timmons and a third great grandson Jeff Timmons of Forney Timmons have both taken y37 DNA tests which show them as DNA matches at a Genetic Distance of 2.

Discussions of auDNA confirmation regarding children Emanuel Timmons and Forney Timmons: A fourth great granddaughter Ruth Ann (McAlhaney) Monroe of Emanuel Timmons and a third great grandson Jeff Timmons of Forney Timmons have both taken FamilyTreeDNA FamilyFinder (autosomnal) DNA tests which show them with 39 Shared Centimorgans and a Longest Block of 21 and an estimated relationship range of 3rd to 5th cousins. (Actual relationship: Fourth Cousins once removed). Additional descendants of son Emanuel Timmons who also link to Jeff Timmons (descendant of son Forney Timmons) include: Patrina Paralee (Hill) Perkins (35 cM across 2 segments), Sandra (Boltz) Ritchie (19.5cM across 1 segment), J.E. Boltz (19.1 cM across 1 segment), Verner Robbins (40cM across 4 DNA segments), Wilma (Thomson) Mowery (15 cM across 1 DNA segment).

Discussions of auDNA confirmation regarding children Samuel Timmons and Forney Timmons: A likely 2nd great grandson Thomas Asa Carpenter [through Samuel's on James Coleman Timmons] of Samuel Timmons and a third great grandson Jeff Timmons of Forney Timmons have both taken AncestryDNA (autosomnal) DNA tests which show them with 36 Shared Centimorgans across 1 segment with a predicted relationship range of 4th to 6th cousins. (Actual relationship would be: Fourth Cousins once removed).

Charles Timmons was most likely born in 1751 (Probably 12 January) or possibly in 1755 (1755 comes from History of Caroll and Harrison Counties). Web research performed by his great, great, great, great, grandson Jeff Timmons in August 2017 conflicts on whether he was born in Charleston, Forsythe, SC/NC, United States[1]; Martisnburg, Virginia (now West Virginia), United States; Ireland; or Scotland.

The conflicting birth information shows dates of birth in 1750, 1751, 1755[1], 1771 and 1775. Web research also conflicts on whether he was born in Charleston, South Carolina; Ireland; or Scotland. The headstone (Find A Grave: Memorial #18377812) clearly shows a birth year of 1751. Any additional reference as to his true date of birth (and location) would be greatly appreciated. ANY information as to his parents would also be quite beneficial.

Charles married Mary Magdalene Forney on 11 September 1793 in Frederick, Maryland, United States.[2] [3]

The best information found to date (primarily from the book OHIO VALLEY GENEALOGIES: relating chiefly to families in Harrison, Belmont, and Jefferson Counties, Ohio and Washington, Westmoreland, and Fayette Counties, Pennsylvania by CHARLES A HANNA[4]) shows Charles married Mary Magdalene "Polly" Forney (daughter of Abraham Zook Forney and Susanne [Shreyer] Forney both of German descent; and 4th great granddaughter of Hans Farni of Switzerland) on 11 Sept 1793 in Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, McIntyre Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, USA. (Alternate information [from www.piattresearchers.net] shows they were married in Annapolis, Frederick, Maryland, USA.)

From www.genealogy.com via Rose M. Allgood (copied by Jeff Timmons on 08/28/2017):

"He paid taxes in Mount Joy, Adams County, PA, married Mary Magdelena Forney in Frederick County, Maryland.Charles was listed on Maryland census, Emmitsburg 1800, in Martinsburg, West Virginia in 1810 and then removed to Cadiz Harrison County Ohio."

Also from www.genealogy.com via Rose M. Allgood:

"In 1803 Charles bound his son John Timmons (age 18) to an apprenticeship under Edward McBride as a wheelwright for two years (Ref:Western Md Genealogy, Vol 5 #4 P. 162."

Charles and Mary had the following children[5]:

John Timmons (born 1785) - Not a likely child of Charles and Mary (8 years before they were married) but old notes of Jeff Timmons indicate this child might have existed. Charles would have clearly been old enough. Mary on the other hand would not have been. (notes indicated "Bound to an apprenticeship under Edward McBride as a wheelwright for two years by his father Charles")
