Biography
(Luella) Jane "Jennie" Tinkham was born in West Baraboo (then called Lyons), Sauk County, Wisconsin, in 1861. She taught school for 13 years in Dakota Territory and then in Sauk County, where she was principal of North Freedom school for two years. In 1893 she married James N. ("J.N.") Douglas of North Freedom, where they lived. In 1910 they lived in Belvidere, Illinois but returned to North Freedom. They had two sons, Veo (1894-1978) and Verne (1896-1958). They retired to California, in National City in 1920 and La Mesa in 1930, where he died in 1937 and Jennie in 1944. They are buried in Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego.
Footnote
She usually used "Jennie" and occasionally "Jane" but her marriage record has "Luella Jane." In 1930 she used "Jennie L. Douglas."
