Mary Ruth Tinney was born on August 7, 1918, in Trion, Georgia, the child of John Tinney and Mattie Whitehead. She married Eugene Spencer Masters on April 22, 1935, in Marshall, Alabama. She died on November 7, 2004, in Prospect, Tennessee, at the age of 86, and was buried in her hometown.
