Described as bachelor and spinster, she of this parish, he a sojourner. Both signed. Witnesses are Jas. Tinney and Samuel Benney.
The first Samuel died in 1843.
Mary Ellen's birth certificate was timed - did she have a (still-born) twin?
Daughter Eliza is referred to as Eliza Emmeline in the 1851 census. She may have had a double wedding with Mary Ellen (index ref. St Columb 9/65,vol.5c,p.158).
All children's christenings are recorded in the IGI (from parish registers) - Jane Ann's is given as both in St Enoder on 28th May 1838 and in St Columb Minor on 7th October, and all the others are in Mawgan in Pydar.[6][7]

They are with his mother in 1841, and also a William Tinney aged 15.
In 1851 they appear to have a separate household, with Richard's sister Jane and family next door, and then his mother.
In that census they have a visitor Maria Kendall, 34, with four of her children. She was born at Mawgan, but appears to be a friend rather than a relative.[8]
