Craig Daniel Tipton Craig Tipton was born on June 2, 1945 in Sharon General Hospital, Sharon, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Earl Walter Tipton and Elizabeth Henrietta (Schungel) Tipton. Craig attended first grade at the Maple Drive Elementary School in Hickory Township outside of Sharon and went to the Bartman Elementary school for 2nd through 6th grade and then Hickory Junior and Senior High Schools. Craig met Carol Lynn Gaines in High School and started dating before the Senior Prom which he had invited her to. Craig then went to Penn State University majoring in Chemistry. Between his junior and senior years at Penn State he had a summer job at Diamond Alkali company near Painesville, Ohio where he worked on separating degradation products of pesticides. He graduated from Penn State in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Immediately after graduating, Craig married Carol Lynn Gaines, his high school sweetheart. After getting married, Craig and Carol had a brief honeymoon traveling the Skyline Drive etc. in Virginia before going to Raritan, New Jersey to work on a summer job for Ortho Pharmaceutical Company. Craig and Carol then went to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois where Craig was enrolled in the PhD program for Organic Chemistry. He worked under Dr. Kenneth Rinehart. Craig obtained his PhD in 1971 and immediately got a position at the Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe, Ohio. Carol and Craig bought a home at the end of 1971 in Perry Township in Lake County after living a short while in an apartment in Painesville Township. Two sons were born to the couple, Jonathan Craig in 1969 and Jeffrey James in 1972. Craig and Carol and the children spent summer vacations while they were growing up by visiting the national parks in the west and other destinations. In 1982 Craig hiked with his two boys to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and they stayed overnight at the Phantom Ranch at the bottom. When Jeffrey was older, he had a great interest in the Civil War and we took vacations visiting battlefields including Lookout Mountain, Vicksburg, Antietam, and others. After high school in Perry, Jonathan went to Ohio University in Athens, Oho and majored in Mechanical Engineering and Jeffrey went to Miami University of Ohio and majored in accounting. Craig had a 36 year career at Lubrizol and went from being in the chemical synthesis labs to working on Automatic Transmission Fluid development to finally becoming a Senior Scientist. After retirement, Craig and Carol spent time taking vacation trips. Craig also was a member of the Fossil Society at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and then a member of the North Coast Fossil Club when the previous group broke away from the Museum. Craig spent over ten years as newsletter editor and treasurer for the club. Craig was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Perry, OH and spent time in the church leadership. Another hobby Craig had was collecting old tube radios and vacuum tubes from the 1920s and 1930s. He sold radio vacuum tubes on Ebay to pay for his hobby. Carol passed away in 2018 and Craig, after several months, met Constance Hurt on Match.com. They were married in May of 2020. (Written by Craig Tipton and entered 2-26-2021)

William's paternal grandfather was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. I added his DAR records to the profile that already existed. Of course, this means you are eligible to join the DAR, if you are so inclined.
William is descended on his mother's side from Isaac Buck, who was born in about 1620 in England. He and his brother John came to America in about 1840 and settled in Scituate, Plymouth Colony. He married Frances Marsh in about 1648 and they had eleven children. Descendants and relatives lived in Massachusetts, Maine and elsewhere.
