Virginia Powell, Elliott family researcher, says his parents are Mary Droopman and Joseph Tober, immigrants from Switzerland.
Virginia also states J.L. Tober was a farmer, owning the Elliott-Tober farm, a school teacher and banker. His wife Mary Lorena will ill for a long period before her death at the age of 45.
