In reply to: John Tobey, born 1788 Rosanna Cassidy 6/07/08

Regarding John Tobey husband of Hannah Van Dusen. I just came upon your message concerning John Tobey. You may now have this information as your original post was a few years ago. He was born in 1779 in Lebanon, New London county CT. He was the eldest son of Ephraim Tobey and Abigal Doty. He and his family moved to Madison county NY. John moved to Canada as a United Empire Loyalist and married Hannah Van Dusen on March 19, 1810 and settled near Adolphus Town in eastern Ontario. They had 10 children. I have more information if you wishto reply to this. Paul Tobey

Clues for further research:

It appears that John Tobey was born in 1779 in Lebanon, Conn., eldest son of Ephraim and Abigail (Doty) Tobey, per http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/tobey/378/

John's findagrave profile (indicating birth year 1782, not 1765) is here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=74450527

Ephraim's page in the Tobey Genealogy is here: https://books.google.com/books?id=0BZWAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA93&lpg=PA93&dq=ephraim+tobey+abigail+doty&source=bl&ots=k4d2JJaFfA&sig=Wl86LEm00lJQHYBllEPwXuUdNMw&hl=en&sa=X&ei=o_1UVevSNsiSoQSktIG4Bg&ved=0CEMQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=ephraim%20tobey%20abigail%20doty&f=false

Of course Doty is a Mayflower name. I'm descended from both the Tobey and Doty families.
