Biography

John married (1) Elizabeth McQuillan in 1878. ^[1]

The 1881 census (Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario) lists John P. Tobin 26 ON, grocer; Elizabeth 25 ON; and Charles W 0 (Mar) ON. ^[2]

John and Elizabeth had 2 more children - James Moses and Mary Grace. Elizabeth died in 1884.

John married (2) Theresa Roach in 1886. Children: William John, Maurice and Leonard. Their son Leonard died in infancy.

The 1891 census (Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario) lists John P Tobin 36 ON, Theresa 24 ON, William 3 ON and Morris 7m ON. ^[3]

By 1900 John and his family moved to Montana. Census lists James P. Tobin b. Dec 1854, m. 14y, business manager; Theresa b. Jun 1868 ON, 3 children, 2 living; William b. Oct 1887 ON; Charles b. Jul 1880 ON, book keeper; and Maurice b. Sep 1888 ON. ^[4]

John and Theresa divorced before 1910. John was living with his brother Charles in the 1910 census. ^[5]

In 1920, John was living with his son Maurice. ^[6]

John died in Butte, Montana in 1937 ^[7]. He is buried in Holy Cross cemetery. ^[8]

John P Tobin, 83 - Old Resident, Dies

John P. Tobin, 83, a Butte resident many years, died yesterday at a local hospital.

Tobin was born in Ottawa, Canada. He had worked in Butte for several years as a bookkeeper.

Surviving are four sons, Charles Tobin, Casper, Wyo.; James Tobin, Montreal, Canada; W. J. Tobin, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Morris Tobin, Los Angeles, a daughter, Mrs. Grace Roach, in Canada, and a niece, Mrs. C. J. Topei, Helena.

The body is at the Daly-Shea mortuary. ^[9]
