Cornelius was born in Bandon, Cork, Ireland to Michael Tobin and Johanna Regan. He was baptized in the Cork & Ross Diocese, 30 June 1855. [1] On the 13 of February 1892 he married Elizabeth Nash, the daughter of Robert Nash and Ellen Hurley. They were wed in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bandon. [2] Cornelius and Elizabeth's children were:

DEATH Cornelius passed away 20 June 1937 at his home on Castle Road. Attended by his daughter, Elizabeth O’Neil.

Censuses 1901 - Cornelius, a tailor, listed as HOH with wife, Elizabeth; daughters Christina, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Hannah; his mother, Hannah and two relatives William Ahern and John Brown.

1911 - Cornelius, a tailor, listed as HOH, with wife, Elizabeth; children Kathleen, Elizabeth, Hannah, Julia, Michael and Annie; brother-in-law Cornelius Herlihy and John Brown.

RESEARCH NOTES: In the 1901 Census, there is an infant, John Brown, living with the Tobins. According to the Census, which was taken March 1901, John Brown was 4 months old, which would have put his birth at December 1900 and was born in Cork. I found a birth record for one John Brown, who was born 12 December 1900. The only information regarding his parents name is that his mother was O’Keefe. Also living with them in 1901 was William Ahern, a relative. I’ve not been able to find any information on who he may have been.

In the 1911 Census, there is a Cornelius Herlihy, born in 1879, a brother-in-law, living in the Tobin household. I was only able to find one Cornelius Herlihy born 1879 in Cork. His parents were listed as Dennis and Julia Herlihy. *After speaking with a direct descendant of Cornelius Tobin, apparently Cornelius Herlihy was an orphan who the family took in and raised.*

Regarding daughter(s) Julia and Sheila. I found a birth record for Julia Tobin, born 1904 and she appears in the 1911 Census, however I've found no other reference to a Julia Tobin. I HAVE found a marriage record for a Sheila Tobin, daughter of Cornelius of Castle Road. "Sheila" has also been witness for some of the Tobin sisters' marriages; but no birth record or census. I believe Julia and Sheila are the same person, however I have no primary sources to confirm.[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Cornelius by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Cornelius:
