Anna (Tobler) Zubly was a Georgia colonist.

Anna was born about 1720. She is the daughter of John Tobler and Anna Zellweger. John Tobler immigrated to New Windsor, South Carolina in 1737.

Her father, Johannes Tobler, former governor of "Ausser Rhoden portion of the Swiss canton of Appenzell" [diary shows governor of Rehetobel] under the leadership of Rev. Bartholomew Zouberbuhler set out for Charleston, South Carolina in August 1736 arriving in Charleston in February 1737 with a party of about 190 Swiss.[1] JOHANNE [John] and others settled in New Windsor, in what is now Beech Island section of South Carolina, only a few miles from Augusta, Georgia.

On the 12th of November 1746, Anna Tobler, daughter of Johann Tobler of New Windsor, the former governor of "Appenzell Ausser Rhoden" [should be Appenzell Ausserrhoden in English sometimes Appenzell Outer Rhodes], married John Joachim Zubly at Ebenezer, Georgia.[2] [Ebenezer was across the Savannah River from Purysburgh, South Carolina, and south of New Windsor.]

John Zubly became the pastor at Wappetaw Congregational Church in South Carolina about 14 miles from Mount Pleasant.[3] He and Anna returned to Georgia in 1758 where he was the minister at the First Presbyterian Church of Savannah established 1755 (later called the Independent Presbyterian Church), and established an estate near Savannah which he named St. Gall in honor of his native city.

According to the will of John Zubly, she had the following children:

  • son, David
  • son, John
  • daughter, Anne, wife of Mr. Peter Bard[4]

Anna Tobler Zubly died on the 29th of July 1765 as noted in the Journal of John Zubly.[5]

Removed Johannas Felix Zebley as husband of Anna for the reasons given in Elizabeth Scarlett's comment below. It appears that Zebley was conflated with John Joachim Zubly, Anna's husband as documented in his diary (see source list). She could not have been married to both men at the same time.

Concerning proposed merge:

The currently linked spouse of Tobler-36 would have to be removed before any merge is completed. Tobler-108 was not documented in New Castle, Delaware. Also, a document would have to be found to confirm the birth date. These appear to be different women that someone has used the same death date.

Also, it should be noted that the new source listed on Tobler-36, The Journal of the Reverend John Joachim Zubly..., was just added before the merge was proposed so there is no other document linking that person to the one who died in Georgia on that date.

Tobler-108 and Tobler-36 appear to represent the same person because: Same name and death date.

Date of death and place of birth are the same as for the Anna Tobler [Tobler-108] who married Zebley's cousin John J. Zubly in Georgia. Looks like this is a duplicate for that woman. She therefore was not the wife of Johannas Felix Zebley. The latter's wife is still unknown pending further research and documentation.
