A Big Family and a Big Pub 1861 Cranswick
In 1861 Samuel and Elizabeth Fisher have eight children with them in the Londesborough Arms, Cranswick, a big pub just off the main road from Beverley to Driffield and on to Bridlington and Scarborough. The three oldest children are helping to run the pub, while the younger five are at school, though this seems a bit unlikely in the case of Lucy, just 8 months old. [3]
Retired 1881 Hutton Cranswick
In 1881 Samuel and Elizabeth Fisher have recently retired from the Londesboro Arms Hutton Cranswick, but are still living there with four adult children. Only one member of the household, Robert 31 is employed, as a farm manager. The three daughters are described as spinsters which in 1881 in East Yorkshire just means unmarried.. [4]
Death 1885 Cranswick
Elizabeth Fisher, wife of Samuel the innkeeper and now farmer dies in 1885 in Cranswick. Her husband Samuel lives on with four unmarried children for 13 years, and Lucy, the youngest child does not die until 1924. [5]
