Research notes
Minnie's death date is recorded 25 September 1942 on her family tombstone in Mudgee General Cemetery.[4] Her obituary, published 26 October 1942 in the Mudgee Guardian, states that her death "occurred in the Mudgee Hospital at an early hour this morning". Going with date of obituary for the purposes of this profile.
The death occurred in the Mudgee Hospital at an early hour this morning of Miss Minnie Alicia Tomkins, aged 70 years.
Deceased, who was a member of a pioneer Burrundulla family, had only been ill a few days, and her lamentable passing came as a painful shock to relatives and friends.
For the greater portion of her life she resided at Burrundulla, but some years ago she made her home in Mudgee.
Kindly and charitable, she quickly attracted a large circle of friends, and her home in Lawson Street was the scene of many a happy gathering.
Like other members of the family, she had a passionate love of flowers, and surrounded herself with lovely and fragrant blooms. Only a few days before her death she was preparing for the Church of England flower show, and exhibited winning blooms.
She is survived by one sister and three brothers, viz., Albert and Herbert (Burrundulla) , Charles (Sydney) and Mrs. J. Smith (Mudgee). To the sorrowing ones the deepest sympathy of the whole district will be extended.
After an impressive service in St. John's Church of England, the funeral took place to the general cemetery this afternoon, the Re.v. A. G. Powell officiating at both services. The arrangements were in the hands of Messrs. J. c. Swords and Son.
