Clara was born about 1866. She is the daughter of Josiah Tomkins and Elizabeth Evans.

In the 1841 England Census Josiah Tomkins, 25 born about 1816 not in Warwickshire, joiner, was head of his household in Steward St, Lady Wood, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Other Household Members: his wofe Elizabeth Tomkins 25 not born in Warwickshire, and his two children, both born in Warwickshire: Henry Tomkins 2, and Josiah Tomkins 6 Mo. [1]

In the 1851 England Census Josiah Tomkins, 35 born about 1816 in Little Malvern, Worcestershire, England, carpenter, was head of his household in Steward St, Lady Wood, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Other household members were: his wife Elizabeth Tomkins 31 born Brewood, Staffordshire, England, and children, all born Birmingham, Warwickshire: Henry Tomkins, 12 glassblower, Josiah Tomkins 10 glass house, Mary Tomkins 8 scholar, Isaac Tomkins 5 scholar, Emma Tomkins 3, and John Tomkins 11 Mo.
