Mercy (Tomkins) Hollier was born in MIddleton Cheney, Northamptonshire, England.


Mercy Pearson Tomkins was born in 1863 in Middleton Cheney, Northamptonshire, England to John Tomkins and Herriette Lewin (Kingston) Tomkins. Her birth was registered in Banbury, Oxfordshire in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Kingston.[1]

In 1871 Mercy P Tomkins (age 7, Scholar) lived in Middleton Cheney, Oxfordshire with her father John (43, Farmer), mother Harriette L (43), brother William K (12, Scholar), and sister Catherine A (10, Scholar).[2]

In 1881 Mercy P Tomkins (age 17, Student) lived in Bourton, Oxfordshire with her uncle Richard Archer (61, Farmer (43 Ac Emp 2 M 1 B)), aunt Elizabeth Archer [nee Tomkins] (57), Richard's cousin Arthur J Archer (4), and servant Emma Tucker (18, Gen Serv).[3]

In 1891 Mercy Thomkins (age 27, Housekeeper) was a visitor in Wolvercott, Oxfordshire in the household of Charles Hall.[4]

Mercy Pearson Tomkins married William Amos Chinner Hollier in 1895. The marriage was registered in Banbury in the third quarter of the year.[5] [William was the son of Sarah Harriet (Chinner) Hollier ]

Mercy and William had two daughters:

  1. Helen May Hollier (1896-1981)
  2. Muriel Kate (Hollier) Chinner (1898-1964) [married her first cousin once-removed Amos John Tupper Chinner, the son of Sarah Harriet (Chinner) Hollier's brother John Henry Chinner ]

Mercy was a beneficiary of her uncle's estate in 1900: "ARCHER Richard of Little Bourton Oxfordshire gentleman died 13 January 1900 Probate Oxford 26 April to John Carpenter and James Jones farmers and Mercy Pearson Hollier (wife of William Amos Chinner Hollier) Effects £5791 9s. 3d. Resworn December 1900 £5872 17s."[6]

In 1901 "Mary" P Hollier (age 37) lived in Chacombe, Northamptonshire with her husband William A (44, Farmer) and two daughters: Ellen M (4) and Muriel K (3), as well as mother-in-law Sarah H Hollier (80) and servant Caroline R Humphrey (13).[7]

In 1911 Mercy Pearson Hollier (age 47) lived in Middleton Cheney with her husband William A C (54, Retired Farmer) and two daughters: Helen May (14, School-Student) and Muriel Kate (13, School-Student), as well as her mother-in-law Sarah Harriet Hollier (90).[8]

Mercy's husband passed away in 1923: "HOLLIER William Amos Chinner of Banbury Oxfordshire retired farmer died 14 April 1923 Probate Oxford 7 July to Mercy Pearson Hollier widow and Thomas Henry Osborne farmer. Effects £3762 3s. 4d. Resworn £3932 3s. 4d."[9]

Mercy P Hollier passed away on 7 Dec 1958, aged 95 years. Her death was registered in Banbury in the last quarter of the year.[10]

"HOLLIER Mercy Pearson of 15 Fair View Road Banbury Oxfordshire widow died 7 December 1958 Probate Oxford 30 September [1959] to Helen May Hollier spinster, Muriel Kate Chinner widow, and Thomas Edward Hollier Osborne farmer. Effects £114 3s. 2d."[11]
