Abel Benjamin Tompkins was born in 1741 in Newark, Essex, New Jersey.[1]
Abel married Elizabeth Bridge on December 6, 1764 in Morristown, Morris, New Jersey.[2]
During the Revolutionary War, Abel did a tour of military duty that included guarding the Continental Stores and Prisoners.[2] In January/February of 1777 he was taken from the Guard to the hospital to take care of the soldiers sick with smallpox.[2] He soon became sick himself and was a patient in the hospital he was stationed at.
Abel Benjamin Tompkins died in March, 1777 after being fatally infected by small pox during his tour of military duty.[2] He was buried in Morristown, Morris, New Jersey.[1]
