John was born about 1799 in Virginia. Sometime between 1802-1805 he moved with his parents and sister to Hardin Co, Kentucky. Between 1824-1834 he moved with his wife and young children to Greene Co, Illinois. Per a mini-biography about his son, he and his wife with their family crossed the Oregon Trail in 1852, settled at The Dalles and ran a hotel for about 5 years. From there he and his wife moved to Shasta Valley, California. He passed away after 1860.
