Biography

Reuben Tomson b. 11 Oct. 1716 in Middleboro; m. first, on 8 Nov. 1739 in Halifax, MA, his cousin Mary Tomson b. 19 May 1711 in Middleboro, d/o Jacob Tomson and Abigail Wadsworth (q.v.). Mary (Tomson) Tomson died 19 July 1769 in Halifax. Reuben married second, on 22 Jan. 1771, Sarah (Bryant) (Soule) Thomson, b. 31 Oct. 1731 in Plympton, d/o George Bryant and Sarah Ripley, and twice widowed (first husband, Zachariah Soule by whom Jazez Soule, Sarah Soule and Abigail Soule) and (secondhusband, John Tomson s/o Shubael Tomson and Susanna Parlour, by whom she had Mary Thomson). Reuben Tomson died in Halifax on 28 Sept. 1793, leaving will dated 28 Nov. 1788 and proven 8 Oct. 1793. In his will he names wife Sarah daughers Deborah [Tomson] Reed, Lucy [Tomson] Drew; and Joanna Tomson, as well as three grandchildren of his son Andrew Tomson, deceased). Children in Halifax and all but the last one by first wife, Mary):

Probate

The will of Reuben Tomson of Halifax, yeoman was dated 28 November 1788 and proved on 8 October 1793 in Plymouth. He mentioned his wife Sarah, and his children, Deborah, wife of Micah Reed, Lucy, wife of Thomas Drew, Joanna Tomson, and his grandchildren, Reuben Tomson, Abel Tomson, and Abigail Noice, wife of Nehemiah Noice (children of his son Andrew Tomson, decd.), and Andrew's widow, Judith Tomson. He appointed Isaac Sherman of Middleborough to be his executor. ^[1]

His inventory was taken on 31 October 1793 in Halifax.^[2]

In 1794, an account of his estate by Isaac Tomson was recorded which included provisions to the family, dividing the estate, appraisers, gravestones, legacies paid, allowance to the widow, and administration fees.^[3]
