John Tonkin, son of Jemmy and Martha, was baptised 29 Sep 1811 in St Levan, Cornwall, England. [1]

He married Prudence Trenowth 21 Oct 1834 in St Buryan, Cornwall, witnesses were Hugh Trenowth and John Trenowth[2]

In 1841 John and Prudence live in Rosemodrass, St Buryan with their children Mary 4 James 2 and Jane [3]

John and Prudence Tonkin, with their children Mary 11 James 9 Jane 8 and John C 4, emigrated to South Australia on the Marion arriving at Port Adelaide on 10 Feb 1849 [4]

John Tonkin died age 54 on the 2 Apr 1865 in Yankalilla, South Australia [5]

Buried with his wife Prudence on Pearson farm Waitpinga, near Yankalilla, South Australia. [6]

Memorial Stone erected some years later in the Torrens Vale, Cemetery, South Australia. We have John Tonkin, died 02 April 1865, aged 54 years, and Prudence, died 23 January 1896, aged 85 years. [7]

DEATHS
TONKIN On the 2nd April at Yankalilla, John Tonkin aged 54 years, much respected, after a lingering illness, borne with Christian fortitude. [8]
