Lance Corporal Jack Tonkin of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry 10th Bn was killed in action 30 Nov 1917 in France. He has no known grave. He is commemorated at the Cambrai Memorial Louverval, France.

TONKIN Jack L-Corpl No 21598, 10th (Service) Battn. Lewis Machine Gun Section, The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, s of William Tonkin of 17 St Austell street Truro, co. Cornwall, Mason, by his wife Margaret Annie dau of William Keast; b Truro aforesaid in Oct 1895; educ St Paul's School there; enlisted 11 May 1915; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders and was killed in action at Cambrai 30 Nov 1917. His Sergt. wrote "He was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and proved himself to be a keen and willing soldier, ready to do his duty anywhere" Unm. [1]
