OBITUARY
The late Mr George Tonkin
The death of Mr George Tonkin at his residence "Penzance" Scott street Camperdown, on Friday evening, removed a well known and respected resident from the town and district. Born at Mortlake 71 years ago, Mr Tonkin was the second son of the late Mr and Mrs John Tonkin. For about 55 years he worked in and about Camperdown. A stonemason and bricklayer by trade, he worked on many of Camperdown's buildings such as the State School, and several of the Manifold's homes. Of a retiring but likeable disposition, Mr Tonkin spent most of his spare time in his garden. For some years he had lived in retirement and of late had not been in the best of health, although his death was unexpected.
He leaves a widow and a family of seven, Alec, Jack, Charles, Maggie (Gingell) Molly (Mrs LJ McKean) and Sasie. All except the eldest son Alec were born in Camperdown.
The funeral took place to the Camperdown Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, when the Rev WE Moorhouse officiated. The coffin-bearers were Messrs J and C Tonkin (sons) and Mr LJ McKean and JA Gingell (sons in law) and the pall bearers were Messrs J. Grant, R. O'Neill, L. Robartson, A. McRae, W Regan, E Forster, G. Ironside, and K. Downs.
Collie and Brennan were in charge of the funeral arrangements [4]
