Biography

Edward ^{[1] [2] [3]} Sebastian ^{[4] [5] [6] [7] [2] [3]} Tonks ^{[4] [5] [6] [7] [1]}/ Tonkes ^{[8] [9] [2] [3] [10]}, son of John Augustus Tonks/Tonkes ^{[6] [3] [10]} and Mary Clark ^{[5] [6] [3] [10]}, was born about August/September 1843 ^{[7] [1]} in Crewe ^{[7] [1]}, Cheshire, England (registered in September [Quarter] 1843 ^{[4] [5]} at Crewe [SubDistrict] ^[4], Nantwich [District] ^[5]). He was baptised on 1 October 1843 ^[6] in St Michael's Church ^[6] at Coppenhall ^[6], Cheshire, England).

On 31 March 1851, he was living at 11 Holland Street in Newton, Lancashire, England (with his parents and four younger siblings); his occupation was recorded as a scholar ^[7].

On 7 April 1861, he was living at No. 5 Stage Building Yard Manchester, Lancashire, England (in the household of his married eldest sister; also with his younger sister) and working as a [Screw?] Turner ^[1].
