OBITUARY [5Jul1954] --
A former well-known resident of Rollingstone, Mr. Frederick William Lewis Tooth, passed away at Townsville on Saturday at the age of 84 years. Born at Toowoomba in 1870, Mr. Tooth was educated at Maryborough Grammar School, and worked as an apprentice fitter and turner at Walkers Ltd. Coming north to Stone River, Ingham, at the age of 19, he was married, then worked for some time with W. White, surveyor, and at various other places on the Stone River, later mining in the Ewan district for many years. With others he opened up Mt Spec and Cloudy Creek tin fields, and later took up wolfram mining at Ollera Creek. During the survey of the Townsville-Ingham railway line he worked with Mr. Greensill, surveyor. In 1907 he took up land at Rollingstone, and was engaged in fruit farming and later cane growing. The deceased was always interested in local affairs and sport, and due to his grand physical condition he was able to indulge in these activities until recent years. Mr. Tooth leaves a grown-up family of four sons and five daughters.
His wife predeceased him 12 years ago. The family comprises Miles and George (Rollingstone), Charles (Ballarat), Walter (Macknade), and Mesdames W. Casey and P. Bell (Townsville), M. Ison (Maleny). J. A. Hoffensetz (Brisbane), and T. Moriarty (Bungalein). [4]
