Torbett, 82, of Englewood, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday night, Aug. 18, 2009, at Fort Sanders Special Select Hospital in Knoxville.He was born in 1927 in McMinn County to the late Oscar and Ida Mae Torbett. He was a devoted and deeply loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a lifelong member, Sunday school teacher, deacon and faithful and dedicated leader of the First Church of God in Englewood. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, and worked and retired from Carpenters Union Local 74. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Torbett; his great-granddaughter, Dixie Le Ann Wood; and two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Bill York and J.D. and Grace Marie Burris.Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lena Torbett of Englewood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil Preston and Glenda Torbett of Englewood, and Stanley Allen and Betty Torbett of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Yvonne Torbett of Englewood, and Leesa Kim and Brian Browning of Maryville; four grandsons, Chris, Clay and Tyler Torbett and Nathan Wood; seven granddaughters and their spouses, Tia and Johnny Chrisman, Tara and Dustin McNelley, Angie and Don Morrow, Kim and Sam Duncan, Melissa and Bill Mills, Megan Browning and Sarah Browning;20 great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harstell and Imogene Torbett of Athens, Marvin and Othella Torbett of Etowah, and J.R. and Nancy Torbett of Lithia Springs, Ga.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Faye York of Etowah, and Rhea and Cecil Borden of Sweetwater; and several deeply loved nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Church of God in Englewood with Pastor Kevin Cummins officiating, and concluding with the Celebration of Life video. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens with military honors.Pallbearers will be Ernest Moses, Amos Brock, Kenneth Gay, Roy Sliger, Bill Clark and Gene Key. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God Building Fund, P.O.
