Biography

Ferenc Toth was born on the 21st of September in the year [1]1882 in Mikohaza, Zemplen, Hungary. His parents were Ferenc and Martha, nee Marcinko, Toth[2]. By trade he was a carpenter. His religion was Roman catholic [3]. On October 1925 he married Julianna Toth, a widow. He was 43, and it appears this was his first marriage. There is no notation on the marriage certificate that he was widowed or married before[4]. Both of his parents werre dead[5] . My mother told me Toth is a very common name, but Ferenc and Julianna were distantly related. In 1926 Ferenc, Julianna, her children from her first marriage to Mike Palkovich - Anna, Mary and George set out to return to the United State of America[6] on the SS Lafayette. While in International waters, a girl was born to them, Martha/Marta Toth. When they landed in Havana, Cuba, the family disembarked, and baby Martha was baptized. The family was to take the SS Orizaba to America. They boarded the ship except for Ferenc. He was denied entry. He stayed in Cuba for the next 8 years. He passed away in 1934 from a gun shot wound. Family lore is he was on the street when he was shot. He is buried in the Cemetery of Colon, Cuba [7]
