Biography

Marie Touchet was the daughter of Jean Touchet, squire of Beauvais and Quillard, a huguenot, and of his wife Marie Mathy, daughter of a Flemish physician.

She probably met the future Charles X when they were both in their teens.

She became Charles X's mistress and bore him a son, Charles de Valois-Angoulême (1573-1750).

Marie Touchet married François de Balzac d'Entragues, governor of Orléans, in 1578. The couple had two daughters, Catherine Henriette de Balzac d'Entragues and Marie-Charlotte de Balzac d'Entragues. Both were mistresses of Henri IV.

Marie Touchet died at her home, Place des Vosges in Paris, on 28 March 1638.
