William Towers was born at Winkfield in Berkshire and was baptised at Chobham in Surrey on the 3rd of December 1766, son of William Towers and Mary. [1] Winkfield, though in Berkshire, is less than ten miles from Chobham in Surrey.
William, who laboured on the roads, found his way to Ealing in Middlesex where on the 13th of May 1813 he married Rebecca Turner [2] who had been born in Chobham about 1790. They settled in Richmond. [3] Seven children were born during their marriage.
William was 86 at the time of the 1851 Census living at 15 St John's Place, Richmond with Rebecca 62 who was on Parish relief. Their seven year old granddaughter, Louisa Towers, was living with them. [4]
William died the following year. [5] He was buried on the 30th of October at St Mary Magdalene, Richmond.[6]
