She was the daughter of George Crawford and Alvira Partridge according to the marriage record. The family cannot be found in census records. The parents of Robert Terry Townes are currently unknown. There were a number of Townes families living in Virginia in 1820.

His wife Julia F. Jamison Townes was born Aug. 1844 in Arkansas and died 2/5/1920 in San Francisco, CA. She is buried in Modesto Citizens Cemetery, Modesto, Stanislaus County, CA. All of her daughters died without issue. They are all buried in Modesto Citizens Cemetery except for Anna who is buried in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, CA. All of the sons except William H. Townes are buried in Modesto Citizens Cemetery. He is buried in Acacia Memorial Park, Modesto, CA. Charles L. Townes the son of Robert Terry Townes and Margaret Crawford died young without issue. The last son Edmund J. Townes was born ca. 1846 in Franklin County, IL. He married Leanna J. Crawford 1/12/1887 in Orleans Parish, LA. No additional information.

Robert Terry Townes was born in Virginia according to the 1880 Census records for his sons Robert Ross Townes and John Joseph Townes. He is only listed in the 1830 Franklin County, IL Census. He was born between 1790 and 1800 and died before 1850 in Franklin County, IL. His widow Margaret Crawford Townes was born ca. 1805 in Tennessee and died after 1870 in Franklin County, IL. They had other sons in addition to Robert Ross Townes named John Joseph Townes, Charles L. Townes, and Edmund J. Townes. John Joseph Townes was born 6/8/1833 in Franklin County, IL and died 5/18/1909 in San Francisco, CA. He is buried in Modesto Citizens Cemetery, Modesto, Stanislaus County, CA. He is listed in Stanislaus County, CA Census records for the years 1880 and 1900.

Charles Lee Townes was living with his Lane relatives in Huntsville, Madison County, AL in 1900. He was born Dec. 1882 in Limestone County, AL, the son of Robert Ross Townes and Kate Lane. Robert Ross Townes was born 8/1/1842 in Franklin County, IL and died 2/17/1890 in Athens, Limestone County, AL. He is buried in Athens City Cemetery there. Kate Lane Townes was born 1845 in Limestone County, AL and died 5/16/1919 in Madison County, AL. She is also buried in Athens City Cemetery. The couple married in Madison County, AL 3/1/1865. Their other sons George Lane Townes, Robert Charles Townes, and Willie Townes all died without issue. Robert Ross Townes was the son of Robert Terry Townes and Margaret Crawford.
