Jane Townley (married name Kerr) was born on 8 December 1822 in Lisburn, Down, Ireland, the daughter of Samuel Townley and Elizabeth Crothers.^{[citation needed]}

Jane married James Kerr (1823 - 1911) in 1841 in Belfast, Antrim.

James (35), Jane (35), James (6), Eliza (4), Jane (2) and Sarah (5 months) arrived at Hobart Town aboard the "Clio" in 1856.
