Myrtle was born in 1881 to Calvin Eugene Towns and Susan Devilla Wright. She had at least 12 siblings: James Wesley, Mary Diana, Chauncy W, Eugene, Wilson R, Ella Elizabeth, Emma Towns, Elizabeth, Walter, Charles, Susan, and Violet.

She married in 1897 to William Thomas Broadworth, son of Isaac Broadworth and Anna Youmans. She was about 16 years old. They had at least 4 children together:

  1. Susan B Broadworth
  2. Zilda Broadworth
  3. Alvaretta Broadworth
  4. Henrietta Broadworth
