Biography

JOHN TOWNSEND 1723

John Townsend was born 1723 in Bucks Co., PA, and died 1803 in Union Co., SC. He married (1) Elizabeth Pearson October 02, 1749 in Buckingham MM, Bucks Co., PA, daughter of Enoch Pearson and Margaret Smith. She was born February 08, 1725/26 in Wrightstown, Bucks Co., PA, and died October 15, 1795 in Union, Union Co., SC. He married (2) Tabitha Jacocks January 19, 1799.

John Townsend, son of Joseph, declared his intentions (a 2nd time) on 3 Oct 1749 at the Buckingham MM to marry Elizabeth Pearson.

The Quaker community on Bush River was a most interesting one. Small farms, enough and to spare, among all, was its general state. Hard working, healthy, yet an honest, innocent and mirthful, though a staid people, make up altogether an interesting picture.

John Townsend and his wife, Elizabeth Pearson Townsend are said to be buried in Sardis Cemetery, (likely Pearson-Sardis Cemetery) on Sardis Road in Sardis (Union County) South Carolina
