Biography

Alfred Townsend was born in 1839 at Oxford in Oxfordshire, the son of Jehu Townsend and his wife Sarah, born Sarah Holyoake [1] [2].

In 1841 Alfred Townsend was living at Pensons Gardens in St Ebbes in Oxford with Jehu and Sarah Townsend (who can be presumed to be his parents) and their other children. His age was given as 1, implying a birth date in 1839 or 1840 [3].

In 1851 Alfred was living at Friars Road in St Ebbes in Oxford with his parents Jehu and Sarah and their other sons. His age was given as 11, implying a birth date in 1839 or 1840. His birthplace was given as Oxford, Oxfordshire. He was at school [2].

In 1861 Alfred was living at 29 New Street In St Ebbes with his parents Jehu and Sarah and their younger son James. His age was given as 21, implying a birth date in 1839 or 1840. His birthplace was given as Oxford. He was a shoemaker [perhaps working for his father] [4].

He passed away in 1914. [5]
