Biography

Catherine was born in 1817. The attached baptism record was found for Catherine, daughter of George Townsend, Green Grocer and Catherine Grew. She was baptised on 18 January 1818 at St Leonard, Shoreditch, Hackney.

Catherine married on 15 May 1842 at St John, Hackney, London to John Browning, Gentleman. Witnesses to their marriage were George Townsend (likely her brother) and Eliza Holland. Occupation of her father was given as Fruit Salesman.

Two sons were born in Clerkenwell, John in 1844 and Thomas Rust 1846. Their third son George Stephen was born in 1849 in Islington. By 1851 the family were living at 10 Bristow Road in Shoreditch and John Browning was employed as a Foundry Worker and later a Stereotype Foundry Man.

The Browning family next moved to 9 Graham Tce in Islington. 1

Catherine was deceased before the 1871 Census in April.

Catherine (Townsend) Browning died in 1871 aged 54 at Islington. Her death was registered in the January/March Quarter.
