Biography
Fanny Townsend was born in 1869 in Romsey, Hampshire, England to Daniel Townsend and Elizabeth (Sillence) Townsend. Her birth was registered in Romsey in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Sillence.[1]
Fanny Townsend, daughter of Daniel & Elizabeth, was christened on 14 Nov 1869 in Romsey.[2]
In 1871 Fanny Townsend (age 1) lived at Foxbury Cottage in Romsey Extra with her father Daniel (33, Ag Lab), mother Elizabeth (33), sister Jane (9, Scholar), and brother Joseph (7, Scholar).[3]
In 1881 Fanny Townsend (age 11, Scholar) lived at Foxbury in Romsey Extra with her father Daniel (41, Agricultural Lab), mother Elizabeth (42), two brothers: Joseph (17, Agricultural Lab) and Daniel (6, Scholar), and niece Mary Agatha (5, Scholar).[4]
Fanny Townsend married Alfred Henry Tongs in 1891. The marriage was registered in Romsey in the first quarter of the year.[5]
In 1891 Fanny Tongs (age 23) lived at Michelmersh Lane Farm in Michelmersh, Hampshire with her husband Alfred H (26, Agricultural Labourer).[6]
In 1901 Fanny Tongs (age 33, Laundress) lived at Michelmersh House Farm in Michelmersh with her father-in-law William (65, Wood Dealer), husband Henry (36, Brickmaker), two daughters: Ethel (9) and Florence (8), and lodger Frederick Mundy (33, Agricultural Labourer).[7]
In 1911 Fanny Tongs (age 43) lived in Michelmersh with her husband Harry (46, Brickmaker) and father-in-law William (75, Old Age Pensioner) - Fanny & Harry had been married 20 years, and 2 children had been born in their marriage (both still living).[8] Their daughters were both living in the households of their employers: Ethel Tongs (19, Housemaid Domestic) lived at Bowenhurst Church in Crookham, Hampshire and Florence Hilda Tongs (18, Under Housemaid Domestic) lived in Curdridge, Hampshire.
Fanny Tongs passed away in 1953, aged 83 years. Her death was registered in Romsey in the first quarter of the year.[9]
