Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney of St. Leonards was born on 24 February 1732/33.1 He was the son of Hon. Thomas Townshend and Albinia Selwyn.1 He married Elizabeth Powys, daughter of Richard Powys and Lady Mary Brudenell, on 19 May 1760.1 He died on 30 June 1800 at age 67.1 He held the office of Secretary of State, Home Department.1 He was created 1st Baron Sydney, of Chiselhurst, co. Kent [Great Britain] on 6 March 1783.1 He was created 1st Viscount Sydney of St. Leonards, co.
