Jared Tozer (1764-1850) was a native of Lyme, Connecticut, who, between the ages of fifteen and nineteen, served as a private soldier in the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. After his discharge in 1783, he married and found employment in Hartford County, Connecticut. However, around 1788, along with his wife, Eunice Ives, and two young children, he migrated north to the new province of New Brunswick, settling first in Sunbury County, and more than twenty years later, on the banks of the Miramichi River in Northumberland County, where he was engaged in the lumbering industry
