Research

  • William is probably related to the Treacy family at Belmont for the following reasons:
  • There were two branches of Treacys living side by side at Donagile, near Castlecomer, from the mid-19th century up until the 1920s. One branch is descended from this William, the other from this Belmont Treacy, Robert https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Treacy-229. It was taken for granted they were originally related but by the 1980s nobody on William's side could remember how. When the Belmont branch at Donagile died out in the 1920s the property reverted to the Belmont Treacys.
  • William lived at a house in Coon East, about 3km from Belmont
  • His wife Euphemia Shirley was also from Belmont.
  • Robert Treacy of Belmont and this William are possible first cousins.
  • William's grandson Abraham (son of John Shirley Treacy) marries Jane Condell. Jane's mother is a Bellmont Treacy, Martha.
  • For William's mother, research the 1798 claimants and any other original sources. Could possibly be "Anne Tracy, swore her son was killed by the rebels, who was her only support, she is a widow with 7 children, of Mothel and Dysart." She is the right age to be William's mother or aunt. In addition research this marriage bond for possibility of being William's parents: John Tracy & Anne Shaw 1767. William calls his first son John and his only daughter Anne. The names fit and the dates fit if William was either older than our presumed age or he was the youngest child, born around 1780.
  • 1822 Probate will William Treacy of Bellmont. Possible older relation.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
