His father died and he grew up with his Mother, Rose Donnelly, and step-father, Denis McHenry and they moved to Philadelphia. He had many half-brothers & sisters. They were all successful at a family shoe business for many years in Philadelphia. Solomon appears to be the main proprietor of the business after his Step-Father died.
