Birth and Christening

John was born before 28 March 1847 in Wappenbury (Eathorpe), Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Joseph Tranter and Maria (Aliband) Tranter. [1] His parents had seven other children, giving him four sisters and three brothers:

  2. Charles Tranter
  3. Emma (Tranter) Bateman
  4. Harriet (Tranter) Isham
  5. Edward Tranter
  6. Arthur Tranter
  7. Sarah Tranter

1861 Census

At the age of 14, John was living with his parents and niece, Selena, in the Radford district of Eathrope, Warwickshire. His father Joseph was 61 and working as an agricultural labourer, while his mother Maria was 59; she did not have an occupation listed. John was working as a plough boy. His nine year old niece, Selena, was a scholar. Her birthplace was recorded as Coventry, Warwickshire, England. [2]

Marriage and family

He married Sarah Ann Thompson before 31 Dec 1868 in Kings Norton, Worcestershire, England. [3]

They had one daugher, Phoebe Selina Tranter , born before 31 Mar 1869, in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. [4]

1891 Census

At the time of the 1891 England and Wales Census, John was 44 and was working as a "stationay En. Driver (Em'ee) in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. He was the head of household; his wife, Sarah, was 43 and worked as a "coffee Hse Manageress (Em'ee)." Their daughter, Phoebe, was an unmarried 22 year old employed as a "Day School Governess (Em'ee)." William Thompson, Sarah's father, also lived with them; he was 63 and worked as a "general labourer (Em'ee). He was born in Kenilworth. The family lived in Boatsman Hall on Bridge St. [5]

Death

John died before 30 Sept 1918, aged 71, in Aston, Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom. [6]
